Timo Soini, 47, the leader of the True Finns and Finland's best-known populist politician, enjoyed a great night, as his party - largely driven by his own personal haul of more than 130,000 votes - gained one MEP and helped the Christian Democrats to secure one of their own. Soini is known as a vehement Eurosceptic and also as a passionate football supporter. He has said he will hold his seat in the European Parliament only until the next Parliamentary elections in Finland in 2011.
