On Friday of last week, Muhammad Abdulla Hanif had achieved the ripe old age of two days. His mother Adeela Mubashir, originally from Pakistan, hoped to be able to go home with her son at the beginning of this week. Mubashir did not require an interpreter for the delivery, as English was used with the midwife. She praised the level of care at pre-natal clinics and in the hospital, but there was one glitch: though the family had expressly asked for an all-female team, a male anaesthetist appeared. Adeela Mubashir also suggested some flexibility might be in order for the Finnish norms that state that only after 42 weeks is a baby late and delivery should be induced. In her case the wait went on so long the child was eventually born by caesearean section.
