The location of the accident on Highway 4, just north of Rovaniemi and close to Rovaniemi Airport (Rovaniemen lentoasema). The larger map shows the town of Sodankylä and the Kevitsa nickel-copper mine to the north. This is only one of several large mineral deposits being explored or worked in the Sodankylä region.
