Police investigation into Lake Bodom killings nearly finished
The National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) has nearly completed its preliminary investigation into the infamous Lake Bodom murders which took place 44 years ago.
Investigators are still waiting for the results of blood tests from forensic laboratories in Germany and Britain. The suspect in the case, Nils Gustafsson, was remanded in custody in early April this year. He was one of four young people on a camping trip at Lake Bodom in June 1960. The other three, two 15-year-old girls and an 18-year-old boy, were stabbed to death, and early this year police said that they now have probable cause to suspect that Gustafsson was the killer. The suspect was released from custody in late May after spending two months behind bars. His interrogations have continued during the summer, but the restrictions placed on his movements have been lifted. If Gustafsson is charged with the murders, the trial in Espoo District Court is likely to attract a good deal of media attention. The main courtroom of Espoo District Court can accommodate 50 - 60 members of the media and the public, and court officials suspect that they might have to give first priority to journalists.
