Gustafsson testifies at trial on Friday

Gustafsson testifies at trial on Friday
Nils Gustafsson, on trial for the murders of three people 45 years ago, adhered to his previous accounts of events at Bodom Lake in June 1960, when three of his companions during a business trip were killed in a tent.
Gustafsson, who was long seen as the only survivor of an attack by an outsider, is now on trial accused of the killings.
The focus of his Friday testimony was that he has no recollection of what happened after all four were in the tent, and he had embraced and kissed one of the two girls, Irmeli Björklund.
After that he had gone to sleep, using his leather jacket as a pillow.

"I woke up in Töölö Hospital. I do not remember if it was Wednesday or Thursday. I looked around, and wondered where I am", he said from the witness stand. Every place hurt.
"I had the impression that when I left, I may have fallen on my motorcycle."
Gustafsson was questioned by the prosecutors, the defence lawyers, the judge, and the lawyer representing the next of kin of the victims. His answer to all important questions was "I don’t know", or "I don’t remember".

Gustafsson told the court how the four prepared for their camping trip on Saturday after work, and what they did that evening. He said that he and Björklund had been an item for about two weeks.
The other boy, Seppo Boisman, had suggested the trip. The group brought along food and some alcoholic beverages, and the trip was made on two motorcycles, with the girls riding on the back.
After they set up the tent, the bottles were opened. Gustafsson did not recall how intoxicated he may have been - possibly about as drunk as Boisman.
Gustafsson insisted that there had been no arguments, and that although both he and Boisman had brought condoms, he denied making any sexual advances toward Björklund, as the prosecution has claimed. "We didn’t have any privacy. There were four of us."
