Mortgages dropped by 200 million from previous year

The number of mortgages dropped in December from the previous month for the first time in over 15 years. By the end of December the amount of Finns’ mortgage totaled at 88.3 billion euro, the Bank of Finland reveals. Also significantly fewer new mortgages were approved during 2013 than in previous years. Loans amounted to 15.2 billion euro, whereas in the previous year the figure was 19.1 billion euro.

The overall number of all mortgages, i.e. the so-called mortgage base, is increasing more slowly than before. With annual growth amounting to 2.3 per cent in December, mortgages increased with an annual rate of 5.6 per cent in the previous year.
