Impact of corporate responsibility on profits largely unseen, survey finds

Finnish business executives do not yet fully recognise the impact of corporate social responsibility on the performance of their companies, finds a survey conducted by the Finnish Corporate Responsibility Network (FIBS). Overall, FIBS interviewed the managing directors and employees responsible for corporate responsibility of 201 major companies.

On the one hand, the majority of the respondents recognised corporate responsibility as a significant aspect of their business operations, while nearly half recognised it as the premise of their operations.

On the other hand, only five per cent of respondents identified cost savings and twelve per cent sales growth as the objective of their corporate responsibility activities. Moreover, fewer than one in six respondents acknowledged that corporate responsibility can affect the value of the company's shares, despite the fact that most respondents identified investors and shareholders as significant drivers of corporate social responsibility.
