No Baltic Sea state could cope with maritime disaster alone

Finland urges the Baltic Rim countries to develop their co-operation in the prevention and management of maritime accidents in a report published on Tuesday on the rescue capabilities of the region's countries, excluding Russia. The conclusions of the report are explicit: not a single country has the sufficient rescue capabilities to cope with a disaster in the Baltic Sea but international co-operation is invariably needed.

“The time when every country tried to maintain the capabilities to cope with everything alone is behind us. The project found that every country wants to enhance co-operation,” says Toni Fohlin, a project manager at the Finnish Border Guard.
