The share of young people who abstain from alcohol has increased steadily over the past couple of decades. While fewer than 10 per cent of young people abstained entirely in the early 1990s, the share has since increased to roughly 16 per cent – that is, nearly doubled. Similarly, the share of young people who only use alcohol rarely has grown.
