Illegal strikes are a Finnish disease, states Ilpo Kokkila, the chairman at the Confederation of Finnish Industries (EK). Kokkila made his statement when Karjalainen on Tuesday asked him to comment on a strike called by roughly 300 employees in the transport and terminal services of Itella and supported by the Transport Workers' Union (AKT). The strike effectively guarantees that no cargo belonging to Itella or its subcontractors will be handled at Finnish ports until Friday.

Legality of Itella strike called into question
The statement by Kokkila does not stack up, views Anu-Tuija Lehto, a lawyer at the Central Organisation of Finnish Trade Unions (SAK). “There aren't too many illegal strikes in Finland,” she insists.
