A growing number of clothing retailers donate their unsold items to charity after sales campaigns. “Retailers have clearly woken up. Recycling has yet to become widespread but is on the rise,” confirms Tuula Loikkanen, the managing director at Fashion Commerce in Finland. However, recycling only becomes an alternative after products can no longer be sold at reduced prices or through second hand shops.
