The sun blazes down on a strawberry field located not far from the centre of Lahti. There is not even a breeze to offer relief. Keidi Vaikma, a 23-year-old Estonian, takes off her pink hooded sweatshirt and continues picking strawberries at Koivistoisen Mansikkapaikka. Vaikma is toiling away on a strawberry field in Finland for the sixth consecutive summer to earn money for travelling. “It's easier to make money here than in Estonia,” she explains.

Gerle Trifanov, 20, agrees. “It isn't difficult to find work in Estonia, but the pay is lower than in Finland,” she says. Vaikma will toil away at Koivistoisen Mansikkapaikka for two months and expects to pocket 2,000—2,500 euros after taxes.
