Stubb lukewarm over joint Nato assessment

Security policy was one of the main talking points as the premiers of Nordic countries sat down during a Nordic Council session in Stockholm on Tuesday. In a press conference held before the meeting, members of the media were particularly interested in the possibility of Finland and Sweden seeking Nato membership in light of the heightened tensions in the Baltic Sea.

Prime Minister Alexander Stubb (NCP) firmly turned down the possibility of the countries looking into joining the defence alliance together. “If a Nato assessment or any other defence assessment is carried out, the premise must be that it will be carried out by the Government and state of Finland,” he underlined.
