Padasjoki firm suspected of aggravated environmental offences
The Häme Police Department has concluded an extensive pre-trial investigation into alleged environmental offences offences in Padasjoki. PR-Recycling, a local waste management company, is suspected of aggravated impairment of the environment for storing waste in excess of the amount permitted under its environmental permit as well as for contaminating both soil and groundwater by discharging chemicals into the environment.
Under its environmental permit, the company was allowed to store 160 tonnes of waste.
The Centre for Economic Development, Transport and the Environment (ELY Centre) of Häme reprimanded the company for exceeding its storage limit already in 2010. Yet, the amount of waste stored on the premises had increased to 500 tonnes by 2011, investigators have determined.
