The security situation in eastern Ukraine is currently more volatile than it has been for weeks, Erkki Tuomioja (SDP), the Minister for Foreign Affairs, has estimated following reports that hostilities near Donetsk have flared up and that armoured military vehicles have crossed into the region from Russia. Although all the details have yet to surface, Tuomioja believes the big picture is “clear enough”.

“What is certain is that more vehicles have been sighted there, but [vehicles] have been there all along. Artillery has certainly been used, but by whom – by both sides, apparently,” the Minister for Foreign Affairs commented on Tuesday.
