The ranks of the jobless grew by 27,000 to roughly 230,000 between December 2013 and December 2014, indicates the Labour Market Survey of Statistics Finland. Last month, a total of 128,000 men and 104,000 women were unemployed. The margin of error for the monthly survey is relatively high, +/- 18,000 people.

The Labour Market Survey also shows that the employment rate – or, the proportion of working-age population in employment – was 8.8 per cent last December, representing a year-on-year increase of 0.9 percentage points.
