The District Court of Helsinki has detained a sergeant from the Helsinki Police Department on suspicion of aggravated acceptance of bribes and aggravated abuse of public office. The suspect also served as deputy director of the Bear Squad, the special operations and counter-terrorism unit of the Police of Finland. In addition, the court detained an executive of a Finnish company that has sold equipment, such as ropes and bulletproof vests, to the Bear Squad on suspicion of aggravated giving of bribes.

As both of the men were detained on suspicion, rather than for probable cause of, an offence, the District Court of Helsinki must re-consider its detention decisions within seven days.
