David Hofman, the head of a delegation from the International Monetary Fund (IMF) to Helsinki, has voiced his confidence in the ability of Finland to overcome its economic problems. “Based on the discussions we've had, it seems that everyone is well aware of the gravity of the situation. A favourable characteristic of the Finnish society is that economic problems have, at least in the past, been solved by working together,” he says.
